Only a few days to register

March 26, 2007

Hello again,

IATEFL’s annual conference is a unique ELT event. The sheer scale of it is impressive but what really gives it character is the mix of seasoned ...

...professionals, some of the top-notch names in ELT, and enthusiastic newcomers to the podium.

This year it is taking place in Aberdeen, in north-eastScotland, and the venue itself is spectacular: the Cairngorm mountains, fairy-tale castles, home of whisky. But serious conference-goers don’t visit for the tourism! Looking at the programme will make you dizzy: how to choose among so many interesting topics? Many will be tempted to hear such legends of the ELT world as Mario Rinvoluccri and of course such opportunities are not to be missed. But do give newcomers a chance too. Look for people exploring topics that relate your own situation.

The programme is so varied that it’s difficult to suggest highlights. But I did pick out some interesting talks about teaching in China. If I were able to attend I would certainly follow the threads dealing with EAP: several talks on this topic. There are plenty of sessions suggesting exciting news of teaching all the old chestnuts: grammar, vocabulary, skills (well, this is our bread and butter after all).

Of course the publishers and exam boards are keen to sell their wares but the IATEFL conference is really a teachers’ conference and you don’t get the idea that it’s just a glorified sales pitch.
Follow this link to get all the info of the conference and remember to register by the end of this week: http://www.iatefl.org/content/conferences/2007/delegate_registration.php/.
